Mother Nature's Medicine

Aloe vera is one of the only natural vegetarian sources of Vitamin B12 on the planet. Also the plant has vitamins A, B12, C and E, protein, calcium, magnesium, zinc, and essential fatty acids. Aloe vera has also been proven time and time again to boost your immune system and it also has anti-aging properties.

The plant is good for fast healing. Aloe vera has properties that accelerate the process in which the body cures itself. Growing up my mother would always put Aloe Vera on everything. In fact, to this day when I trip I think of the smell of the plant. We used to cut a slice of it off the plant and split it in two. We would place the gel on the open wound and keep it moist with the mucus. CAUTION: It tastes terrible; so do not get it in your mouth. Wash your hands well after handling it because it is truly the bitterest thing I’ve ever tasted in my life!

For best results slice the leaf down the middle and carefully cut cris-cross so that the plants juices pour. I suggest you use a spoon to scrape off the the inside. Place directly over the wound.

I like to keep an aloe vera plant in my kitchen near the sink. It livens up the area and is easy to reach in case of a sudden burn or cut, you've got a knife right there, easy access to water, although it doesn't need much. It's where it fits in my house. I'll post a picture of mine soon.

CAUTION: Be careful with the mucus that pours out - although it looks clear, it acts the same way that potatoes do! The clear liquid turns in to purple stains when it starts to dry. So don't get it on your sheets or clothes.

  • For burns: Place directly over injured area. For a more soothing effect, put the leaf in the freezer for a few minutes.
  • For skinned knee or cuts: Place directly over raw skin. Try to get as much as possible on as fast as you can. The best way to do this is to soak it and then let it air dry for a few minutes. Then soak again. Repeat as much as necessary. You will see that within hours, your body will start to form a scab before your eyes.
  • For sunburn: Remove all of the "good stuff" from the inside of the plant and rub it all over you like lotion. DO NOT sit in the sun while you do this, it will cause for a deeper burn. Stay in the shade in a cool place, under a fan. Ask someone to rub lotion on your sunburn several times. Take a cold bath and put one last layer on. Remember to wear clothes that can get stained.

Aloe vera can also be used for acne treatment. For best results, place on clean and exfoliated face as a mask, leave on for 30 minutes and rinse off with cold water before bed time. (The cold water will close your pores, as opposed to rinsing your face with hot water, which leaves your pores open).
For last minute pimples or blemishes that must vanish, pop pimple, if needed and dab some aloe on the red area. It will disappear before you know it.
